Replacement of Route 1 Bridge (Bridge Number 01904) over Jordan Brook in Waterford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction for the replacement of the Route 1 bridge over Jordan Brook in Waterford will begin on April 1, 2016, with advance tree clearing started on February 24, 2016.
The project consists of the replacement of the bridge with a three-sided precast frame culvert.  Advance tree clearing work has started on February 24, 2016 to allow utility companies to get an early start on the utility relocation work.  Actual construction will begin on April 1, 2016.
Before demolishing the existing bridge, a temporary road and bridge will be built alongside the existing structure to maintain 2 lanes of traffic throughout the duration of the project.  The new structure will include a 10-foot grass shelf on the southern side of the bridge and have a longer span than the existing structure allowing increased water flow during periods of heavy rain.
Additionally, approximately 600 feet of full depth reconstruction of the roadway will be performed adjacent to the bridge.
DOT Project No. 0152-0157 was awarded to New England Infrastructure, Inc. at a cost of $3,883,081.40 on February 10, 2016, and is scheduled to be completed November 30, 2017.

Traffic impacts will occur periodically Monday through Friday, between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. and Saturday through Sunday, between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m.
