Replacement of Bridge No. 02917 – Curtis Street over Route 72 in New Britain
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that physical work is starting on March 1, 2016, for the Replacement of Bridge No.02917 – Curtis Street over Route 72 in the City of New Britain.
The project consists of replacement of the superstructure with continuous weathering steel beams. New steel plate girders will allow for an increased vertical clearance with the same beam spacing. The substructure will be modified to accept the new superstructure and to accommodate AASHTO seismic requirements.  Asphaltic Plug Expansion joint system will be used to accommodate expansion and contraction of the structure.
DOT Project No. 0088-0186 was awarded to Arborio Corporation at a cost of $4,763,231.80 on February 3, 2016 and is scheduled to be completed December 5, 2016

LANE CLOSURE DETAILS
Route 72 Eastbound in the vicinity of exit 7 and Westbound in the vicinity of exit 8: The contractor will be allowed to close one lane of traffic during the daytime Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9am to 3pm – Fridays from 9am to 2pm. Night time lane closures will be between the hours of 6pm to 5am Monday to Thursday, 7pm to 5am on Fridays, 7pm to 11am Saturday and Sundays except Holidays. 
The contractor will be allowed to halt traffic on Rte.72 for a period not to exceed 20 minutes to perform necessary work for erecting / removing overhead signs supports, erection and setting of structural steel and for the removal of the existing bridge superstructure, between the hours of 12:00 am and 5:00 am on non-Holidays.
Ramps and Turning Roadways: the contractor will be allowed work between the hours of 9am and 3pm Monday through Friday.
Curtis Street:  the contractor will be allowed to work between the hours of 9:00am and 3:00pm on Monday through Friday and 10:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.  The contractor will be allowed to close Curtis Street to southbound traffic, while maintaining northbound traffic through the duration of the project.
DETOUR INFO-
During stage construction of the project (anticipated in March 2016 to December 2016), a one way only (Northbound) traffic pattern will be put in place on Curtis St.  Motorists will be detoured through Myrtle St., High St. or Burritt St. in order to access West Main Street.  Motorists should follow posted signs for the detour route.
