About the project -
The project consists of the rehabilitation of Bridge 01615, which carries State Road (SR) 555 (West Main Street) over Pan Am Southern Railroad in New Britain. The bridge is located at the intersection of Burritt Street, approximately 400 feet west of Route 72 overpass. The project includes rehabilitating the existing substructure by removing and reconstructing the deteriorated wingwalls and concrete portions of the abutments along with new abutment extensions to support a wider superstructure. New mini-pile supported, reinforced concrete stub abutments will be constructed on the existing substructure. A precast, pre-compressed, concrete and steel composite superstructure will be placed on the new stub abutments and concrete abutments extensions. The vertical clearance over the railroad will be a minimum of 18 feet. The roadway configuration on the proposed bridge will remain the same as existing, but an exclusive left turn lane will be added to the west approach to allow eastbound vehicles to turn onto Burritt Street from West Main Street.
