Reconstruction of Route 31 (Main Street) in Coventry
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction on Monday, March 14, 2016,  for the reconstruction of Route 31 including the realignment of an existing sharp curve just south of Route 275 in Coventry.
The project consists of reconstructing Route 31 (Main Street) through the town of Coventry from about 300 feet north of the intersection of Route 275 (Stonehouse Road) to about 1000 feet east of Monument Hill Road, a total distance of approximately 2,100 feet. The project's primary objective is to improve safety by eliminating a sharp curve and steep grade on Route 31 just south of its intersection with Route 275 in Coventry.
The reconstruction project will include full depth reconstruction, milling and overlay, horizontal and vertical realignment, a five-foot sidewalk separated from the travel way by a three-foot snow shelf/utility strip on one or both sides of the roadway and drainage (to eliminate water-pooling) and sanitary sewer improvements. The proposed roadway width of Route 31 will be 28-feet wide with granite curb on both sides. Intersection approaches (Stonehouse Road/Lake Street and Monument Hill Road) will be reconstructed and will include drainage improvements.
DOT Project No. 0032-0130 was awarded on December 9, 2015 to Red Technologies, LLC of Bloomfield, CT at a cost of $5,458,987.55 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2017.
LANE CLOSURE INFO:
There will be an alternating one-way traffic pattern on Route 31, Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no weekend work or night work.
Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
