Reconstruction of Interchange 18 on Route 8 (Northbound Ramp) Derby and Ansonia
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work will continue for the reconstruction of Interchange 18 on Route 8 (Northbound Ramp) in Derby and Ansonia beginning April 1, 2016. 
The project consists of the construction of a new Route 8 northbound on-ramp including the installation of a retaining wall, a noise barrier wall and safety improvements along with drainage improvements being made on both Division Street and Westfield Avenue.  
Motorist Advisory:  Starting April 1, 2016, Westfield Avenue will be permanently closed in the City of Ansonia for all through traffic. Westfield Avenue at Division Street will remain open up to 54 Westfield Avenue, where a traffic circle will be constructed to coincide with the future opening of the Route 8 Northbound on-ramp. Westfield Avenue will remain open at the north end from Jackson Avenue to approximately 71 Westfield Avenue where a cul-de-sac will be constructed.
DOT Project No. 0036-0179 was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc., at a cost of $8,692,190.35 on 12/23/14 and is scheduled to be completed in September 2016.
LANE CLOSURE INFO
  • Lane closures can occur on Route 8 NB between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and between the hours of 6:00 p.m. on Friday through 6:00 a.m. on Monday. 
  • On Division Street and Westfield Avenue there will be lane closures between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. 
It should be noted that from April to November 2016, existing travel lanes on Route 8 NB, in the vicinity of Interchange 18, will be shifted and reduced to 11-foot widths, to accommodate the proposed construction activities of the new on ramp.

Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
