Reconstruction of Holabird Avenue and Bridge Number 04060 (Holabird Bridge) over Still River in Winchester

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction for the replacement of Bridge 04060, (Holabird Bridge) Holabird Avenue over the Still River in Winchester, beginning on September 19, 2016.
The project involves the removal of the existing superstructure and the installationof eight new weathering steel beams, a new concrete bridge deck (widened by 12 feet) and a widened substructure with scour countermeasures.  This project also includes 325 feet of improvements to Holabird Avenue including the relocation of utilities and improvements to the drainage system. 
DOT Project No. 0162-0145 was awarded to Schultz Corporation on July 20, 2016, at a cost of $2,918,974.39 and is scheduled to be complete in October 2018. 
LANE CLOSURE INFO
Motorists can expect the complete closure of Holabird Avenue in the area of the bridge, until October 2018.  However, at all times the west end of Holabird Avenue will remain open for business access.  Access to NWCCC parking will be maintained at all times.  Whiting Avenue will be closed to two-way traffic and allowed to enter Holabird Avenue from the south.  A posted detour will be in place.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity and encouraged to follow the posted detour.
