Intersection Improvement Project for Route 57 and 136 at Clinton Avenue and Closure of North Compo Road in Westport
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the closure of North Compo Road, between Main Street and Cross Highway in Westport. The closure will begin August 18, 2016, and the road is expected to re-open by September 18, 2016.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety and traffic operations at the intersection. The project involves widening the east side of Route 57 (Main Street) for approximately 1000-feet to provide exclusive left-turn lanes in both directions.  Additionally, Compo Road will be widened at the intersection to provide an exclusive left-turn lane while realigning the through-lane with Clinton Avenue. There will also be traffic light replacements. As part of the project, the Willow Brook storm culvert under North Compo Road will also be replaced.  It is undersized and has been a long standing problem in large storms when the stream overflows the culvert, causing flooding at the intersection. An additional benefit is that the existing bituminous walkway along the north side of Route 57 (Main Street) will be upgraded to be an ADA compliant sidewalk.
DOT Project No. 0158-0201 was awarded to Complete Construction Co. of Ansonia, CT, on December 21, 2015, at a cost of $1,879,931.30 and is scheduled for completion by October 28, 2016.

LANE CLOSURE INFO – The contractor will be permitted to impact traffic operations Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and  3:00 PM, and between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, alternating traffic may be used as needed. On-street parking will be prohibited in each direction.
DETOUR INFO - During the culvert replacement, the contractor will be allowed to close Route 136 (Compo Road) and detour traffic. In accordance with the detour plans, traffic will be routed onto Cross Highway, Weston Road and Main Street. The duration of the detour operation should not exceed 30 days.
