Detour Scheduled for the Replacement of Bridge Number 00990, U.S. Route 44 over Wappoquia Brook in the Town of Pomfret
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the scheduled detour of U.S. Route 44 in Pomfret starting on July 5, 2016 to facilitate construction activities for the replacement of Bridge Number 00990, U.S. Route 44 over Wappoquia Brook in the Town of Pomfret.
The project consists of the replacement of the existing bridge over Wappoquia Brook along Route 44/169 in Pomfret. A new three-sided precast arch will be placed on top of new footings supported by micropiles. Additional drainage will be added on the north side of the bridge and approximately 400 feet of full depth reconstruction of the roadway will be performed adjacent to the bridge.
Route 44/169 will be detoured while the demolition and construction of the new bridge is performed. The detour will occur for an 8 week period between July 5, 2016 and August 28, 2016.
DOT Project No. 0111-0119 was awarded to E.T. & L. Corporation at a cost of $2,009,586.00 on November 19, 2015 and is scheduled to be completed October 27, 2016. This project is administered by the Office of Construction – District 2, Norwich.

Route 44 East/Route 169 North: At the stop sign on Route 44/169 turn left onto Murdock Road (SR 644). At the stop sign at Route 97 turn right and follow Route 97 to the intersection of Route 44.
Route 44 West: At the intersection of Route 44 and Route 97 proceed straight and follow Route 97 south. At the stop sign at Route 97 and Murdock Road (SR 644) turn left, follow Murdock Road to the intersection of Route 44/169.
Route 169 South: At the intersection of Route 44 and Route 97 turn right onto Route 97. Follow Route 97 south. At the stop sign at Route 97 and Murdock Road (SR 644) turn left, follow Murdock Road to the intersection of Route 44/169.
Signs will be installed to guide motorists through the detour route.
