CTDOT Begins Planning for I-95 Sign Replacement in SE Connecticut

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is developing plans to replace highway signing on Interstate 95 from Groton to the Connecticut/Rhode Island State Line.

The project involves replacing existing highway signing from the vicinity of Exit 85 in Groton to the Connecticut – Rhode Island State Line as well as the expressway sections of Route 184 and Route 349 in Groton.  Replacement of the highway signing will consist of removing existing overhead, side mounted and post mounted signs and installing new overhead, side mounted and post mounted signs on existing sign supports and new sign supports. Ramp signing will also be included for removal and replacement on new sign supports.

The present schedule calls for the design plans to be available in May, 2016.  Based upon a preliminary assessment, this contract is estimated to cost in the range of $9,000,000.  This project will be funded with 100% State monies.

"It is the Department's policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken," said Redeker.  "It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development.  If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted.  At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary."

Anyone interested in requesting information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. Michael A. Chachakis, Project Engineer, at (860) 594-2750.  Please make reference to Project No. 172-342.
