Bridge on Route 114 over Race Brook in Orange to be Replaced

      The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the replacement of the Route 114 bridge over Race Brook in the town of Orange. The project will begin on January 11, 2016.

      The project consists of full replacement of the bridge including the wingwalls and foundations. The existing structure is in poor condition and is obsolete. The existing lane width will be increased to 12 feet and shoulder width to 4 feet in both directions. The plan consists of two stages of construction. In Stage 1 all traffic will be shifted to the West side of the existing bridge with temporary signalization and illumination. The Eastern half of the structure will be demolished and a new structure built. In stage 2 the traffic will be shifted to the East side of the bridge onto the new structure and the West side structure will be demolished and a new structure built.

      DOT Project No. 0106-0121 was awarded to Dayton Construction, Inc. of Watertown, Ct on November 20, 2015 at a cost of $1,447,987.40 and is scheduled for completion in November 2017.The project is being administered by the Department of Transportation Office of Construction, District 3 in New Haven.
