Route 2 / I-84 Interchange Bridge Rehabilitation Project Set to Begin -  Expect Ramp Closures, Detours, and Lane Closures
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of rehabilitation work on four bridge structures within the Route 2 / I-84 interchange in East Hartford.  

The project consists of repairs to four bridge structures within the Route 2 / I-84 Interchange. Construction activities are slated to begin the week of 6/22/15.  Long-term ramp closures will be part of the construction sequence. Daytime and nighttime lane closures will also be necessary to expedite the needed repairs.  The project duration is expected to run from 06/22/15  to 11/30/16.

Upcoming long-term closures with detours include the following:

  • SR500, TR805 (Governor Street to Route 2 EB):   7/08/2015 to 06/30/2016
  • TR 831 (I-84 E Connector to Governor Street):     6/30/2015 to 12/31/2015 

Weekend closures of the I-84 Eastbound Connector (from Founders Bridge) are also expected.  Select weekend closures are expected throughout the duration of the project:

  • The 1st weekend closure is expected to occur the weekend of 7/24/15 through 07/26/15.  

Route 2 Westbound to Founders Bridge:

  • Detour to take place in 2016.

DOT Project No. 0042-0304 was awarded to The Brunalli Construction Company of Southington, Connecticut at a cost of $22.

LANE CLOSURE INFO:

Lane closures on Route 2, I-84 and associated ramps may occur nightly between the hours of 10:00 PM to 06:00 AM.  Times will vary based on the day of the week and location of the closure. Lane closures on adjacent streets and unassociated ramps may occur Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM daily, or 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM nightly.    

DETOUR INFO:

  • TR805 – From Governor Street: Motorists will be directed to take Blacksmith Lane to East River Drive to Pitkin Street to Jayce Street to Route 2 East.
  • TR 831 - From I-84 Connector: Motorists will be directed to take Exit 3 from Founders Bridge to Pitkin, to East River Road to Ash to Thomas to Rt44 to Prospect to Governor.
  • I-84 Connector - From Founders Bridge: Motorists will be directed to take Exit 3 From Founders Bridge to Pitkin, to Darlin Street to East River Drive to Blacksmith Lane to Governor to 84 EB on Ramp. Traffic Traveling West on Pitkin Street will be directed to Jayce Street to Willow Street Ext. to Rt2 WB to 84EB exit or Governor Street
Signage and police will be located at key locations to facilitate traffic flow.
