Replacement of Bridge No. 02486 Route 79 over Hammonassett Brook in Killingworth
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the project for the replacement of Bridge No. 02486, Route 79 over Hammonassett Brook in the Town of Killingworth, will begin February 2, 2015.

The project is necessary to correct the structural deficiencies of the existing bridge.  Additionally, the bridge is considered hydraulically deficient based on the design frequency storm, and is subject to scouring of the substructure.

Bridge work includes the replacement of the bridge with a precast concrete three sided rigid-frame structure supported by steel piles, and the construction of concrete wing walls at all four corners of the bridge.

Road work includes a bituminous concrete overlay at the bridge, full depth roadway reconstruction at the bridge approaches, and the installation of metal beam railing at the four corners of the bridge.

The contract was awarded to Black & Warner Construction Co. Inc. of Unionville, Connecticut at a cost of $1,051,721.00 on December 2, 2014, and is scheduled to be completed in November 2015.

LANE CLOSURE INFO-

One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on Route 79, except during the periods when the contractor is actively working on the project.  When the contractor is working on the project, an alternating one-way traffic operation will be maintained at the site.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
