Notice of Public Informational Meeting Concerning the Installation of Centerline Rumble Strips in Coventry
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a public information meeting regarding the proposed installation of centerline rumble strips on Thursday, November 5, 2015 in Coventry, CT at Coventry Town Hall located at 1712 Main Street. The formal presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an open forum for individual discussions afterwards.
The purpose of the project is to install centerline rumble strips on state and locally owned roadways.  This project will cover approximately 150 miles of centerline rumble strips on bi-directional state roadways and approximately 50 miles of centerline rumble strips on locally owned roads.  
In Coventry, the project location is Route 31 from the Vernon/Tolland town line to Route 44, a distance of 4.26 miles. Rumble strips are a proven safety countermeasure and will help minimize the number of lane departure crashes.  Rumble Strips work by alerting  drivers through noise and vibration should their vehicle veer off into an opposing lane of traffic.   
Construction is anticipated to begin in summer of 2016 based on the availability of funding.  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2.2 million.  This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 100% percent federal funds.
The public informational meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
