Public Information Meeting Concerning Railroad Grade Crossing Improvements in Meriden
As a part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, improvements will be made at railroad grade crossings. The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a public information meeting concerning railroad grade crossing improvements. The meeting will be on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Meriden Public Library, 105 Miller Street, Meriden, CT 06450.
Improvements to four (4) at-grade rail crossings in Meriden include installation of new pedestrian gates and wayside horns as well as approach roadway and traffic signal improvements (as required) at the grade crossings located on Cooper Street, East Main Street, Cross Street, and Britannia Street/North Colony Street. The wayside horns will also reduce noise at South Colony Street crossing. The existing grade crossing at Brooks Street will be closed to accommodate construction of the new Meriden Station.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2014 and be completed in late 2016.  The approximate cost of the work is $1,200,000 and is funded by Federal Rail Administration grant funds from the State of Connecticut.
Plans will be available for public review.  CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at CTDOT’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Eric Bergeron, Project Engineer, at (860) 594-3152.  Plans will also be available for review in the City Engineers Office of Meriden.
All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with CTDOT personnel.
