Bridge Replacement Project on Route 43 over Hollenback River in Cornwall

    

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the replacement of the bridge that carries Route 43 over the Hollenbeck River in the town of Cornwall is scheduled to start on Monday, August 18, 2014.

This project consists of the complete replacement of the bridge using precast box culverts.  The current structure is being replaced with an 8-foot by 5-foot precast concrete box culvert carrying two 11-foot lanes with 4-foot and 6-foot-6-inch shoulders and includes new metal beam rail and approach roadway work to accommodate the bridge replacement.

Route 43 will be closed to thru traffic between Johnson Road and Lake Road during bridge replacement and roadway construction.  The closure is scheduled to be in effect from 9 a.m. on Thursday, August 28 until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2014.

DOT Project No. 0031-0128 was awarded on April 16, 2014 to NJR Construction, LLC of Terryville Connecticut at a cost of $307,756.98.  The project is being administered by the Department of Transportation, District 4 Construction Office and it is expected to be completed by September 30, 2014. This is Bridge No. 02301.

Alternating one way traffic will be in effect from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Thursday, August 28 at 9 a.m. until Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 3 p.m.

Route 43 closed to thru traffic and detour will be installed to use Route 4 and Route 63 to bypass closure.
