Traffic Signal Upgrades - Various Locations
The Department of Transportation (Department) is developing plans to upgrade traffic control signals at 17 locations in the towns/cities of Bolton, Deep River, Essex, Griswold, Groton, Mansfield, Marlborough, Middletown, New London, Norwich, Pomfret, Putnam, Waterford, Westbrook and Windham. The following intersections are included:

Project No. 172-402:

  • Mansfield – Route 195 at SR 430 and Gurleyville Road (Intersection No. 77-220)

  • Norwich – Route 2 at Route 12 (Intersection No. 103-206)

  • Putnam – Route 171 at Woodstock Avenue and Wicker Street (Intersection No. 115-215)

Project No. 172-403:

  • Bolton – Route 44 at South Road (Intersection No. 12-208)

  • Deep River – Route 80 at Route 145 (Intersection No. 122-204)

  • Essex – Route 153 at State Route 604 and Bokum Road (Intersection 49-206)

  • Griswold – Route 138 at Old Bethel Road (Intersection No. 57-206)

  • Groton – Route 184 at Tollgate Road (Intersection No. 58-264)

  • Groton – Route 184 at Gungywamp Road (Intersection No. 58-265)

  • Middletown – Route 66 at Route 157 (Intersection No. 82-202)

  • New London – Route 1 at Vauxhall Street (Intersection No. 94-213)

  • Pomfret – Route 101 at Route 169 (Intersection No. 111-203)

  • Putnam – Route 171 at Kennedy Drive (Intersection No. 115-219)

  • Waterford – Route 1 at Niantic River Road (Intersection No. 152-220)

  • Westbrook – Route 153 at Route 166 (Intersection No. 154-206)

  • Windham – Route 66 at Mayo Street and Adelbert Street (Intersection No. 163-230)

  • Windham – Route 66 at Route 195 and Route 14 (Intersection No. 163-237)


It is the Department’s policy to keep persons informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is anticipated that an informational meeting or formal public hearing will not be necessary.

The design plans for the project are expected to be completed in February 2014 and the project is tentatively advertised for construction in April 2014.
