Replacement of Route 12 Bridge Over Angell Brook in Plainville

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work has begun for the replacement of the Route 12 Bridge over Angell Brook in Plainfield.

The project consists of the replacement of the existing stone culvert with a 40’ long,5’ high by 8’ wide precast concrete box culvert.  The proposed box culvert will be approximately 12’ longer to accommodate pedestrian access by installing a sidewalk along the east side of the roadway.  Upstream and downstream stream banks will be graded and stabilized with riprap, to better align with the proposed box culvert.  The roadway will be fully reconstructed adjacent to the proposed culvert and a 2” bituminous overlay will be installed within the project limits.  Utility relocation work is required to complete the project.

DOT Project No. 108-183 was awarded to Arborio Corporation at a cost of $500,000.00 on March 25, 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by September 30, 2013. This is Bridge No. 02123.

DETOUR and LANE CLOSURE INFO

The contractor will be allowed to close Rte. 12 and detour traffic starting on August 16, 2013 and opening the roadway by August 23, 2013.  The box culvert and roadway work will be completed during the road closure with proper signs in place to guide motorists through the detour route.  The remaining contract work will be completed utilizing an alternating one-way traffic pattern.  Variable message boards will be utilized to further notify the travelling public of the road closure dates.
