Rehabilitation of Bridge on Route 272, North Street, Over Wood Creek in the Town of Norfolk
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the start of construction on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, for the rehabilitation of Bridge 05423 on Route 272 over Wood Creek in the town of Norfolk.

The project consists of scour mitigation with minor structural repairs. The work involves modifications to the existing footings to support a reinforced concrete slab that will be constructed in the fill area over the plate arch to improve the load carrying capacity of the structure.  New wing walls will be constructed and the existing masonry walls will be re-pointed and voids between the stones will be repaired. In addition, the substandard pipe railings are being replaced with a suitable crash tested open rail system with concrete end blocks faced with cut stone. New metal beam rail will also be installed along the approaches.

Route 272 at the bridge site is designated as a scenic road by the Connecticut Department of Transportation and the architectural character of the bridge is being retained by requiring all new reinforced concrete to be faced with cut stone taken from the stone being removed from the existing masonry retaining walls.

DOT Project No. 0097-0094 was awarded to Black & Warner Construction Company of Unionville, CT at a cost of $647,688.00 on December 5, 2012, and is scheduled to be completed by November 2013 with some minor work to be completed in spring of 2014.

LANE CLOSURE AND DETOUR INFO- Motorists are advised to reduce speed and be prepared to stop.  Minor delays may be expected.
