Public Information Meeting Concerning the Relocation of the Wallingford Railroad Station
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a public information meeting concerning the relocation of the Wallingford Railroad Station.  The meeting will be on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. as part of the scheduled Town Council Meeting in the Robert Earley Auditorium, 45 South Main Street, Wallingford, CT.

The project is identified as State Project Number 170-3155.

As a part of the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield (NHHS) Rail Program, the Wallingford Railroad Station will be relocated north of its existing location and south of Parker Street.  Relocating the station away from its current location between Quinnipiac Street and Hall Avenue will allow for the construction of high level platforms that will be required for the enhanced rail service.  The historic station building will not be affected by this action.

The project proposes construction of a state-of-the-art passenger railroad station that includes two (2) 500’ covered high level platforms to allow for level boarding. The proposed project also includes constructing a pedestrian bridge (walkway) and elevator towers in order to allow for safe pedestrian access across the tracks.  Surface parking (147 spaces) is proposed along the west side of Route 5 (North Colony Street) just south Rembert Street and a second lot along North Cherry Street at the intersection of Parker Street will include 74 parking spaces.  Sidewalk access to the proposed Station will be provided from Parker Street, North Colony Street and North Cherry Street.

Work is scheduled to begin in 2014 and be complete in 2016.  The approximate cost is $23,000,000 funded via the Federal Rail Administration and through the State of Connecticut matching funds.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford an opportunity for the public to participate and comment in person on the proposed project.

Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days prior to the meeting.

Plans will be available for public review.  CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at CTDOT’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Mr. Eric Bergeron, Project Engineer, at (860) 594-3152.  Plans will also be available for review in the Town Engineers Office of Wallingford.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with CTDOT personnel.
