Public Information Meeting Concerning Proposed Design Plans for the replacement of Bridge No. 02481 that carries State Route 77 over West Branch West River, Guilford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 02481, State Route 77 over West Branch West River, Guilford. The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Guilford Community Center, 32 Church St, Guilford, at 7:30 pm.
Bridge
No. 02481 is located on State Route 77 approximately 3.5 miles north of the
junction with State Route 80. The
existing structure is a concrete slab spanning 6 feet founded on stone
abutments. Due to scour issues under
the abutments, the existing structure is proposed to be replaced with a
culvert.
The
proposed project consists of removing the existing structure, installing a pre-cast
four sided culvert with natural stream bed material, constructing four
wingwalls on footings and a bridge parapet on the upstream end of the culvert.
A pre-formed scour-hole system will also be constructed at the downstream end.
Some
utilities poles in the project vicinity will be relocated or installed as
necessary.
All
work will be performed within the State’s right-of-way. Work is anticipated to
begin in spring 2014 and last for five months. During this time period, the roadway will be
closed and traffic detoured for one weekend to allow placement of the new
structure. The estimated construction
cost for this project is approximately $400,000 and will be 100 percent State
funded. There will be no Town funds required for the project.
The
public information meeting is being held to afford an opportunity for the public’s
participation and to allow open discussion of views and comments the community
may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans
will be available for public review.
CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this
project. More detailed information is
available at CTDOT’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, CT
during office hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding
holiday. Anyone wishing to review the
