Pavement Preservation on I-95, Town of Groton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is implementing a Pavement Preservation Program for the 2014 construction season.
The purpose of this program is to enhance pavement performance by using cost-effective treatment to extend the service life of the existing pavement.  A section of Interstate 95, which runs through the Town of Groton, has been identified as a candidate for this program.  The Department is developing plans for a 3-inch mill and overlay on I-95.  The project begins after Gold Star Memorial Bridge and ends at interchange 89 (Rte. 614) in the Town of Groton, for a total project length of approximately 5.31 miles.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in October 2013, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2014. This project will be undertaken with 90% Federal and 10% State funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. It is not anticipated that an informational meeting or a formal public hearing will be held for this project due to the limited nature of the proposed work.
