Oakwood Avenue Bridge in West Hartford Completed One Year Ahead of Schedule and to Reopen to Full Lanes of Travel Thursday, December 12, 2013
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the work to complete the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 01757, Oakwood Avenue #2 over Interstate 84 in the Town of West Hartford is one year ahead of schedule.  The bridge is scheduled to reopen to all lanes of traffic on Thursday, December 12, 2013.

Remaining work to complete the final paving of the approaches and other miscellaneous work will be accomplished in the spring.

The contractor, Northern Construction Services, LLC of Palmer, Massachusetts, was able to accelerate the work as a result of a collaborative effort with the City of West Hartford, the project design team, and especially the staff overseeing the project out of the District 1 CTDOT Office of Construction in Rocky Hill.

Full weekend closures coupled with the ability to complete certain phases with minimal traffic interference enabled the contractor to accelerate project completion and still remain within budget.

“We always strive to get projects completed on time, within budget and employ means and methods to improve the value of a project.  Whether it be through time saving processes, cost cutting techniques, use of innovative technology, or streamlining to improve efficiency, the end result is a positive benefit to all stakeholders, especially area residents and local businesses,” stated Ravi Chandran, District Engineer.
