MOTORIST ADVISORY- Interstate 84 Eastbound To Be Closed At Exit 20 in New York State October 19-20 for Bridge Replacement Project; Detour Required

Interstate 84 eastbound will be closed from 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 through Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2013, in the town of Southeast, NY, for a bridge replacement project. The eastbound closure is expected to result in some delays in the city of Danbury, especially near Exit 1, Saw Mill Road and Route 6.  This is the second of two closures on I-84 for the replacement of the Dingle Ridge Road Bridge located in Southeast NY.  The first closure was westbound and was completed with minor traffic impacts during the weekend of September 21-22, 2013.

Roadwork is being conducted by the New York State Department of Transportation to replace the two Putnam County bridges that carry I-84 over Dingle Ridge Road in Southeast, N.Y. The bridges are located approximately one mile west of the New York/ Connecticut border. The work is being accelerated to minimize traffic impacts, but will require the interstate to be closed in that area during two weekends.  Visit New York DOT Project website at https://www.dot.ny.gov/nyi84ct for information on the project, detour routes and contact information for media inquiries, and general questions about activity.

Connecticut and New York have been working together on the traffic management details for the closures, and include state and local law enforcement.

CLOSURE/DETOUR INFO:

I-84 eastbound full closure is scheduled to occur, Saturday October 19, weather permitting, at 5 p.m. and will be in effect through Sunday afternoon, October 20, 2013.

I-84 eastbound will be channeled into a single lane and will be diverted onto Route 6 at Exit 20 in New York where the detour will be taken back onto I-84 at Exit 1, Saw Mill Road in Connecticut. Route 6 will also be reduced to a single lane in each direction to control the flow of traffic entering from New York.

Depending on the origin of your trip and your final destination it may be appropriate to avoid using Interstate 84 altogether. Travelers with origins north of the work may choose I-90 for their east west travel. Likewise travelers with origins south of the work may choose I-95/ I-287.
