Intersection Improvements on Route 1 at Wood Avenue, and Park Avenue, City of Bridgeport
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve safety at two sites located on Route 1 at the intersection of Wood Avenue (Site 1), and at the intersection of Park Avenue (Site 2).
The purpose of this project is to improve safety at these two locations by the addition of exclusive left turn lanes at Sites 1, and by the construction of median barriers at Site 2. Both sites will include traffic signal upgrades. Site 1 begins on Route 1, approximately 280 feet south of Wood Avenue intersection (mile marker 28.86) and extends 250 feet north of the intersection (mile marker 28.96) a distance of approximately 530 feet. Site 2 begins on Route 1, approximately 430 feet south of Park Avenue intersection (mile marker 29.09) and extends 100 feet north of the intersection (mile marker 29.20) a distance of approximately 530 feet.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in September 2013, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2014. This project will be undertaken with 100 % Federal funds.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project's development. A public informational meeting will be conducted upon the completion of the preliminary design. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
