Flower Street Pedestrian RR Crossing in Hartford to Close;

Temporary Path will be Available

      The pedestrian crossing over railroad tracks on Flower Street in Hartford will be closed as of Monday, November 11, 2013; however, pedestrians will still be able to use a temporary path that will be in place by the time of the closing. A permanent multi-use walkway is under construction and will be completed by Thanksgiving (November 28).

      The at-grade pedestrian closure is required for the construction of the new guideway for CTfastrak, and for future Amtrak railroad improvements on the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield line.

INTERIM PEDESTRIAN DETOUR INFO:

      A temporary walkway will be set up below the I-84 viaduct, just north of the existing at-grade Amtrak rail crossing on Flower Street.  This walkway runs parallel to the rail line and connects Flower Street to Broad Street.  During construction of the permanent multiuse walkway, Pedestrians using Flower Street will be able to cross above the railroad track using the temporary path between Broad Street and Flower Street, and the new Broad Street Bridge.

DOT Project No. 0063-0670 was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc. of North Haven, CT on November 09, 2012 at a cost of $14,800,062.35 and is being administered by the DOT Office of Construction District 4, Thomaston.
