Utility Project, South Road (SR 649) in Groton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a utility project will be performed on South Road (SR 649) under the Amtrak Railroad Bridge in Groton.

The utility work consists of a gas main installation on 0.04 mile segment of South Road (SR 649), under the Amtrak Railroad Bridge in Groton between the entrance to Tilcon CT, Inc. and the little league field/boat launch area. This project will require a 24-hour, one-day closure of South Road in this vicinity, and it is scheduled to occur between Monday, August 6, 2012 and Saturday, August 18, 2012.

This utility work is being performed under Encroachment Permit by R. H. White Construction, Inc. for Yankee Gas.

LANE CLOSURE INFO

The 24-hour closure (6:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.) will require a detour.  Traffic control personnel and signing patterns will be utilized to guide motorists accordingly.  The detour routes include Poquonnock Road, Highrock Road, and Tower Avenue.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
