U.S. Route 1 in Mystic Section of Groton Closed From 6 a.m. To 6 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that U.S. Route 1 between High Street and Route 215 (Water Street) in Groton will be closed to vehicle traffic during the installation of a drainage crossing.
The work is part of a streetscape project on U.S. Route 1 (West Main Street) and extends from the Mystic River Bridge to High Street. Phase I improvements will include new concrete sidewalks, granite curbing, granite stone pavers, landscaping, street furniture and ornamental lighting.
DETOUR INFO- U.S Route 1 will be closed to vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Pedestrian access will be maintained during closure. There will be no local or thru traffic allowed.
U.S. 1 Northbound - Car and Truck traffic will be detoured onto West Mystic Avenue to Route 215 (Noank Road/Water Street) and back onto U.S. Route 1 (W. Main Street).
U.S. 1 Southbound – Truck traffic will follow a different detour route than cars.Cars will be detoured onto Route 215) to West Mystic Avenue and back onto U.S. Route 1. Trucks will be detoured for approximately 4 miles via Route 215 (Water Street / Groton Long Point Road) back onto U.S. Route 1.
Special Parking Notice- The Chief of Police has designated a temporary no-parking order for Water Street and Noank Road. This is to ensure safe passage of high volume traffic on the narrow portions of the road. No Parking Notices will be posted on Saturday night 06/23/12.
"No Parking" signs will be posted on Monday morning, no later than 3 a.m.
No Parking Zones:
- Water Street on both side from West Main Street to Noank Road and Noank Road.
- Noank Road on both sides from Water Street to West Mystic Avenue.
DOT Project No. 0058-0316 was awarded to Pettini Contracting from Stonington CT at a cost of $3,642,240.70 on September 17, 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by the beginning of July 2012. The project is municipally administered by the town of Groton and being funded from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act for Urban Projects.
