Rehabilitation of Bridge Number 03624, Sigourney Street over Central New England Railroad in the City of Hartford, Scheduled to Start April 2, 2012
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction activities for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 03624, Sigourney Street over Central New England Railroad, are scheduled to begin on or about April 2, 2012, in the City of Hartford.

The project consists of replacing the existing structure with a three span bridge comprised of precast concrete deck units supported on two new piers and the existing abutments. The new structure will carry one 12-foot traffic lane in each direction and provide 6-foot shoulders on each side resulting in a curb to curb width of 36 feet. In addition the bridge will provide 7-foot wide sidewalks along each fascia with a concrete parapet topped with a 7-foot high, curved-top chain link fence.

The existing profile of Sigourney Street within the project limits and over the bridge will be raised to improve the vertical clearance over the tracks to 19-feet 5-inches from the existing vertical clearance of 17-feet 1-inch.  The construction will be performed by closing the bridge with traffic detoured along local roads. Pedestrian access through the site will be maintained by means of a Contractor-designed temporary pedestrian bridge constructed along the west side of the proposed bridge.

DETOUR INFO

- Sigourney Street between Sargeant Street and Homestead Avenue will be closed to through traffic with local access only.  Detour signs are posted to assist motorists around the closure.

- Pedestrian and Bicycle access will be provided using a temporary pedestrian access along the west side of the bridge.

-  Vehicular traffic will be detoured from Sigourney using Homestead Avenue, Woodland Street, Asylum Street and Sargeant Street.

DOT Project No. 0063-0621 was awarded to Rotha Contracting Company of Avon, CT on January 20, 2012 at a cost of $3,323,988.80. The anticipated completion date of this project is June 25, 2013.
