Public Information Meeting Concerning the Proposed Replacement of the Main Street Bridge over Pattaconk Brook (at the Intersection of Route 148) in Chester
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a public informational meeting will be held concerning the proposed replacement of Bridge No. 02937, which carries Main Street over Pattaconk Brook at the intersection of Route 148 in the town of Chester.   The meeting will be conducted on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chester Meeting House, 4 Liberty Street, Chester, Connecticut.  The snow date is Wednesday, March 7, 2012.
This project will replace the existing bridge with a new bridge and includes minor roadway approach work. I
t is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community be involved and share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.

Main Street at the bridge will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic for the duration of the bridge construction.  A detour route along State Routes 154 and 148 will be used.  Maple Street and Straits Road can also be used as a detour, but will not be marked.  Barriers will be installed at both ends of the construction area to prevent traffic from entering the site.  Access to businesses within the limits of the project will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.

The project schedule indicates that construction will start in the Winter of 2014, assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits.

Anyone interested in requesting information on this project may contact Mr. Richard B. Armstrong, Principal Engineer-Highway Design, Connecticut Department of Transportation, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, P.O. Box 317546, Newington, Connecticut  06131-7546.  Please refer to State Project No. 26-120 in all correspondence.
