Notice of Public Information Meeting Concerning a New Pedestrian Bridge at the Stamford Transportation Center
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning a new pedestrian bridge at the Stamford Transportation Center on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Stamford Government Center, 888 Washington Boulevard in Stamford. A presentation on the project will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by an open forum for discussions with DOT officials.
The project is identified as State Project Number 301-0149.
The proposed project consists of a new, fully enclosed 190-foot long, 10-foot wide prefabricated truss pedestrian bridge over Washington Boulevard.  This bridge will provide pedestrians with a grade separated route to access the Stamford Transportation Center from the west side of the road. Existing stairs on the east side of the street will allow passengers to access both the rail platforms and the new bridge.
The bridge and stairs will include energy efficient lighting that is specifically designed to control the spread of light onto adjacent properties.  Landscaping will be designed to complement the site and native plant selection will require minimal maintenance to ensure that the site is visually appealing for many years.
All work will be performed while the station is still in operation.
Construction is anticipated to begin in 2013. The estimated construction cost for this project to be between $2.5 and $4 million and it is anticipated to be funded with 100% State funds.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Deaf and hearing impaired persons wishing to attend this meeting and requiring an interpreter, must make arrangements by contacting the Department’s Office of Communications at (860) 594-3062 (voice only) at least five working days prior to the meeting.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Mr. Scott A. Hill at (860) 594-3272 or by e-mail at scott.hill@ct.gov. Plans are also available for review at the Office of the Town Clerk in the City of Stamford.
