Night Closure and Traffic Detour on Route 1 Southbound (East Main Street) at Interstate 95 Overpass in Stratford the Week of July 23, 2012
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing the overnight closures of Route 1 (East Main Street) southbound at the I-95 overpass in Stratford.  The closures will begin Monday, July 23, 2012, and proceed on four (4) consecutive nights between 12:00 AM (midnight) and 6 a.m.  The closure and detour are necessary for the installation of steel girders for the new I-95 overpass.
DETOUR INFORMATION- Closure dates may be revised due to weather:
Route 1 southbound traffic will be directed onto temporary roadway and onto Sidney Street which reconnects to Route 1 (East Main Street) on west side of I-95. A minimum vertical clearance of 14 feet will be maintained at the temporary crossover under I-95. Rt. 1 northbound traffic will not be impacted
This construction is part of the overall Moses Wheeler reconstruction project which also includes new I-95 bridges over the Barnum Ave Cut-off (Rt. 1 northbound) and Naugatuck Avenue. Motorists traveling south on Rt.1 southbound and east on Ferry Boulevard are advised to follow the posted detour and direction from traffic enforcement officers.
DOT Project No. 138-221 was awarded to Walsh Construction/PCL JV II of Canton, Mass. on July 8, 2011 with an official start date of August 22, 2011 and an anticipated completion date of August 31, 2016.
