Final Stage for Replacement of Bridges on Route 1 at Stony Brook and Quanaduck Cove in Stonington to Begin on September 4, 2012, using Stop Sign Controlled Alternating One-Way Traffic
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that stop sign controlled alternating one-way traffic will begin on September 4, 2012 on Route 1 at Stony Brook and Quanaduck Cove in Stonington.

The project consists of the replacement of the existing bridges (box culverts) and associated roadwork at the approach areas to the bridges.  Both box culverts will be replaced with a new Bridge which includes steel piles, concrete substructure, steel beams, and a poured concrete deck.  Road work includes full-width bituminous overlay on both sides of the bridges, and the installation of metal beam railing.

The contract was awarded to Hemlock Construction Company, Inc. of Torrington, Connecticut at a cost of $3,167,032.76 on July 15, 2011 and is scheduled to be completed by May 23, 2013.

Alternating one-way traffic controlled by stop signs will be in place until the Thursday before Memorial Day, 2013.   Concrete barrier will be used to safely guide motorists through the work zones.

Motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution through this and all other construction work zones.
