Detour for the Reconstruction of the Route 71 (Cook Avenue) Bridge Over Harbor Brook in Meriden Scheduled to Begin Monday, March 19, 2012
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that Cook Avenue will be closed to through traffic on March 19, 2012, to allow for work on the Route 71 (Cook Avenue) Bridge over Harbor Brook in Meriden.
The project consists of the reconstruction of Bridge No. 1080 carrying Cook Avenue over Harbor Brook. The existing arch bridge will be removed and replaced with new box culverts. The existing utilities will also be relocated and the roadway approaches reconstructed. The contractor has begun with the clearing operation and will detour the traffic effective March 19, 2012.
Local residents and businesses will be provided access and a temporary bridge is also being built to accommodate pedestrian and bicyclists during the bridge closure.
Detour Information
Signs will be posted along the detour route to assist motorists through the area.
Motorists traveling on Cook Avenue will be detoured around the bridge closure using Hanover Avenue, Hanover Road and Hanover Street.
DOT Project No. 0079-0215 was awarded to Dayton Construction Company of Watertown, Connecticut on July 14, 2011, at a cost of $2,274,703.00 and is scheduled to be substantially completed in November 2012, with minor items to be completed during the spring of 2013. The work is being administered by the Office of Construction District 4, Thomaston.
