Connecticut DOT Waterford Maintenance Facility Tank Replacement
The Connecticut Department of Transportation's (Department) Office of Engineering is developing plans for the replacement of the motor fueling facility and heating oil storage tank on the site of the existing maintenance facility at 20 Industrial Drive in Waterford.  The purpose of this project is to upgrade the storage tanks to comply with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection regulations.
It is the Department's policy to keep the public informed when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share their concerns with us to assist in the project's development. If there is adequate interest, an informational meeting will be conducted. At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
This project involves the replacement of the motor fuel underground storage tanks with aboveground storage tanks, removal of the fuel oil underground storage tank, and conversion of the facility to natural gas including replacement of the boiler. The new motor fuel storage aboveground tanks will be located in the area of the existing tanks on the west side of the facility. These tanks will be protected with pipe bollards and enclosed in a 10-foot high chain link fence with PVC slats. This project will also include the replacement of the motor fuel island with dispensers installed adjacent to the tanks for unleaded gasoline and diesel fuel.
The present schedule indicates that final design plans will be available in January 2013. The project will be state funded.
Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. Joseph Bordonaro, Project Engineer, at (860) 594-3310 or by e-mail at joseph.bordonaro@ct.gov. Please make reference to the Waterford Maintenance Facility Tank Replacement Project.
