Work Begins for The Relocation of Utilities along Flatbush Avenue, New Park Avenue and Newfield Avenue in the cities of West Hartford and Hartford
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that motorists can expect nighttime and weekend lane restrictions along Flatbush Avenue, New Park Avenue and Newfield Avenue in West Hartford and Hartford as part of the utility breakout project to relocate water and sewer mains.
The project involves the relocation of Metropolitan District Commission (MDC) water and sewer lines in advance of the construction of the new bridge to carry Flatbush Avenue over Amtrak and the New Britain-Hartford Busway.  The advanced relocation of the MDC facilities will expedite the construction time for bridge construction.  The relocation will also provide easier access to the facilities during future maintenance operations and will avoid settlement issues by placing the facilities outside of the embankment section of the bridge approach.
Lane Closure Info- Motorists can expect lane closures Monday through Friday during nighttime hours from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. with daytime closures (currently not scheduled) between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.   Weekend work may also occur at any time.
  • Flatbush Avenue between Ahern Street and west of Newfield Street before SR504 (Will J. Hilliard Memorial Highway) which is the connector to I-84.
  • New Park Avenue at Flatbush Avenue intersection.
  • Newfield Avenue from Flatbush Avenue to vicinity of Mahoney Drive.
DOT Project No. 0063-0669 was awarded to Ludlow Construction Co. of Ludlow, Massachusetts on June 3, 2011 at a cost of $3,860,869.10 and is scheduled to be completed in April 2012.
