Public Information Meeting scheduled concerning the proposed rehabilitation of bridge number 840 which carries Route 74 over Interstate I-84 in the Town of Tolland
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Informational Meeting concerning the proposed rehabilitation of Bridge Number 00840, which carries CT Route 74 over I-84 on Monday, April 18, 2011 in the Council Chambers at the Tolland Town Hall, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, Connecticut. An informal question and answer session will begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by a formal design presentation at 7:00 p.m.
The project is identified as State Project No. 142-148.
The proposed project consists of replacing the existing concrete bridge deck and parapets, replacing the existing expansion bearings and painting the structural steel beams.  In addition, a 6-foot high protective chain link fence will be installed on the parapets to protect the traveling public on I-84 below.  The existing alignment and vertical profile of Route 74 will be maintained as it exists currently.
There will be no utility impacts associated with the proposed work and all work will be performed within the State’s right of way.
Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2012, based on the availability of funding. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2 million and will be State funded.  There will be no Town funds required for the project.
The Public Informational Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.
Plans of the proposed project will be on display for public review. Department personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project. More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Mr. Scott A. Hill at (860) 594-3272 or by e-mail at scott.hill@ct.gov. Plans are also available for review at the Tolland Town Hall.
