Public Information Meeting Concerning the Replacement of Bridge 01933 (Route 4 over Bloody Brook) and Bridge 02301 (Route 43 over Tributary of Hollenbeck River in Cornwall)
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (Department) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the replacement of Bridge No. 01933, Route 4 over Bloody Brook and Bridge 02301 Route 43 over Tributary of Hollenbeck River on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in the Cornwall Town Hall, 24 Pine Street in Cornwall.

Project 31-127 (Bridge 01933) consists of replacing the existing bridge which is a single span, concrete slab deck on concrete abutments. The existing clear span is 12’ and the curb-to-curb width is 28.3’. The bridge is in need of replacement due to the poor condition of the superstructure. This bridge is proposed to be replaced with twin 5.5’ x 14’ box culverts carrying two 12’ wide travel lanes and two 5’ wide shoulders for a new curb-to-curb width of 34’. The construction will be performed utilizing alternating one way traffic.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2014 assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. The estimated cost of this project is approximately $1.5 million and is anticipated to be funded with Federal and State funds.

Project 31-128 (Bridge 02301) consists of replacing the existing bridge which is a single span, concrete slab deck on stone masonry abutments. The existing clear span is 8’ and the curb-to-curb width is 29.7’. The bridge is in need of replacement due to the serious condition of the substructure. This bridge is proposed to be replaced with a single 8’ x 5’ box culvert carrying two 11’ wide travel lanes and two 4’ wide shoulders for a new curb-to-curb width of 30’. The construction will be performed utilizing alternating one way traffic.

Construction is anticipated to begin in spring 2014 assuming acceptance of the project, availability of funding, and receipt of any required right-of-way and environmental permits. The estimated cost of this project is approximately $1 million and is anticipated to be funded with Federal and State funds.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning these proposed projects.

Plans of the proposed projects will be on display for public review.  ConnDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss these projects.  More detailed information is available at the Department’s Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to discuss the project may contact Mr. Scott A.
