Culvert Rehabilitation/Roadway Repair on Route 82, Town of Haddam
The Connecticut Department of Transportation  is developing plans to address the undermining and settlement of the roadway surrounding the corrugated metal pipe culvert that carries Roaring Brook beneath Route 82 in Haddam.
Route 82 experienced settlement in May 2010, which prompted a temporary road closure for about one week.  During that time, a section of the roadway was temporarily stabilized so that it could be reopened to traffic.  The Department is currently working on plans to provide a more permanent repair to the entire roadway width and return the roadway to its original lane configuration.
The present schedule indicates that construction will take place in spring/early summer 2011.  The construction will be completed in stages, allowing the roadway to remain open to traffic in both directions during the entire process.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.  At this time, it is not anticipated that a formal public hearing will be necessary.
Anyone interested in receiving information on this project may do so by contacting Mr. Scott A. Hill, Manager of State Design, at (860) 594-3272 or by e-mail at Scott.Hill@ct.gov.  Please make reference to State Project No. 60-155.
