Replacement of Bridge on Route 184 over Whitford Brook in the Towns of Stonington and Groton
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work to replace Bridge No. 02779 on Route 184 over Whitford Brook in the Towns of Stonington and Groton will begin on July 19, 2010. The bridge had been heavily damaged during the heavy rains in March of this year.
The construction project consists of the replacement of the bridge structure, reconstruction of the streambed and removal of bridge debris washed downstream.  Motorists can expect to use the existing detour until the new bridge structure is open to traffic.
Detour In Place- Route 184 is closed to thru traffic from Shewville Road to Lantern Hill Road.  Traffic is being detoured onto Route 27, Main Street and Lantern Hill Road.
The contract for this work was awarded to Blakeslee Arpaia Chapman, of Branford Ct on June 30, 2010 at a cost of $ 1,889,967.20 and is scheduled to be completed September 26, 2010.  The project is being administered by the Office of Construction District 2 Norwich.
