Public Info Meeting Regarding the Rehabilitation of the Route 8 Southbound Bridge over Campville Road in Litchfield
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a Public Information Meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00606, which carries Route 8 SB over Campville Road in the town of Litchfield.  The meeting will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Northfield Firehouse, 12 Knife Shop Road, Northfield, Connecticut.
The existing bridge carries highway traffic over Campville Road and is comprised of three simple spans with an overall length of 170 feet.  The out-to-out bridge width is approximately 48 feet and carries (3) 12-foot travel lanes, one 5-foot right shoulder and one 2-foot left shoulder.  The bridge is in need of rehabilitation due to the poor condition of the concrete bridge deck.  The superstructure (steel beams) and substructure are rated satisfactory.
The proposed project consists of the complete bridge deck replacement including parapets and joints.  The construction documents will include phasing and maintenance and protection of traffic.  Roadway design will include new beam rail and approach roadway work to accommodate the deck replacement.
Work is anticipated to begin no sooner than the spring of 2012 and be completed in approximately 2 construction seasons.  The rehabilitation of this bridge is anticipated to be undertaken with Federal and State funds.  The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $2,300,000.  No rights-of-way involvement is anticipated for this project.  The construction will be performed in two stages.  Under this scenario, traffic will be reduced to one lane during the first stage and two lanes for the second stage of construction.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

Plans will be available for public review.  CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.  More detailed information is available at CTDOT's Office of Engineering, 2800 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, Connecticut, during office hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., excluding holidays.  Anyone wishing to review the plans may contact Ms. Michelle A. Lynch at (860) 594-3206 to make an appointment.  Plans will also be available for review at the Town Planning office.

All persons interested in this project are welcome to attend this meeting and discuss the project with CTDOT personnel.
