Pavement Preservation Design Phase Beginning for Projects in the Towns of Canaan, Killingly, New Britain, Farmington, Manchester, Mansfield, Simsbury, Southbury, Woodbury, Wethersfield, Hartford, Windsor Locks and East Windsor
The Connecticut Department of Transportation’s Office of Engineering is developing pavement preservation plans for various sections of roadway (projects detailed below). The purpose of these projects is to extend the service life of the existing pavement. It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken. It is important that communities share any concerns with us to assist in the development of the projects. It is not anticipated that informational meetings or a formal public hearings will be held for these projects due to the limited nature of the proposed work.

All of the projects listed below have schedules that indicate design will be completed January 2011, with construction anticipated to start in summer 2011.
Canaan -
Project No. 21-107: The project involves the placement of a thin overlay, called micro-surfacing, on Route 63 from the Cornwall town line to the Route 7 (South Canaan Road) intersection. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
Killingly - Project No. 68-214: The project involves the milling and placement of a 2-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on Route 101 at its intersection with Valley Road easterly to the Connecticut/Rhode Island state line. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
New Britain/Farmington - Project No. 88-180: The project involves the milling and placement of a 3-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on I-84, from approximately 0.3 mile north of the Route 72 interchange in the City of New Britain northerly to the Route 6 interchange in the Town of Farmington. This project will be undertaken with 40% Federal and 60% State funds.
Manchester - Project No. 76-214: The project consists of diamond grinding the concrete pavement on I-84 between the Hockanum River and Slater Street. Additional proposed work includes milling and placement of a 3-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on the bituminous pavement on I-84 and several approach ramps within the project limits. This project will be undertaken with 100% State funds.
Mansfield - Project No. 77-228: The project involves the placement of rubberized chip seal on Route 89, from its intersection with Route 195 (Storrs Road) northerly for a distance of approximately 3.25 miles. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
Simsbury - Project No. 128-150: The project involves the milling and placement a 2-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on Route 10, from its intersection with Drake Hill Road to the Granby town line. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
Southbury/Woodbury - Project No. 130-177: The project involves the milling and placement of a 2-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on Route 6 between Pine Hill Road and Route 64 (Sherman Hill Road). This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
Wethersfield/Hartford - Project No. 159-187: he project involves the milling and placement of a 3-inch Hot Mix Asphalt overlay on northbound Route 5/15, from approximately 0.1 mile north of Nott Street to the I-91 southbound exit #86, and on southbound Route 5/15, from approximately 0.1 mile north of the Route 314 merge to its intersection with the I-91 southbound off-ramp. This project will be undertaken with 80% Federal and 20% State funds.
Windsor Locks/East Windsor - Project No. 164-234: The project involves the placement of an Ultra-thin bonded Hot Mix Asphalt overlay, called Novachip, on I-91 between Capen Street and I-91 southbound off-ramp exit #44, including the approach ramps within the project limits. This project will be undertaken with 90% Federal and 10% State funds.
