Notice of Public Information Meeting Concerning the Rehabilitation of the Arrigoni Bridge (Route 66, Middletown/Portland)

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will host a public information meeting concerning the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 00524 (Arrigoni Bridge), which carries Route 66 over Route 9, Connecticut River, P & W Railroad, and local roads in Middletown and Portland. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 208, Middletown City Hall, 245 de Koven Drive, Middletown, CT. Inclement weather date will be Thursday, December 16, 2010.

The existing structure is a thirty-span 3428-foot long bridge comprised of twenty-eight approach spans each consisting of a reinforced concrete deck on steel girders and two arch truss spans with concrete filled steel grid decks. It is supported on reinforced concrete abutments and piers with steel pier bents on the Portland side. The curb to curb bridge width is 45’ with two travel lanes in each direction. There are also two sidewalks. The bridge is in need of rehabilitation due to the serious condition of the concrete filled steel grid deck and sidewalks in the main spans.

The proposed project consists of replacing the concrete filled steel grid deck, replacing the bridge deck joints, and repairing the sidewalks. All work is on the main spans of the structure.

Work is anticipated to begin in the spring of 2011 and be completed in the fall of 2011. The rehabilitation of this bridge is to be undertaken with Federal and State funds. The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $15,000,000. There will be no rights-of-way involvement associated with this project. The construction associated with the replacement of the grid deck will be performed in three stages utilizing temporary precast concrete barrier curb, and will maintain one sidewalk and one lane in each direction for traffic during each stage.

The Public Information Meeting is being held to afford a full opportunity for public participation and to allow open discussion of any views and comments the community may have concerning this proposed project.

Plans will be available for public review. CTDOT personnel will be available during the meeting to discuss this project.
