Intersection Realignment of Route 100 (Main Street) at U. S. Route 1 (Saltonstall Parkway) in the Town of East Haven
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the  Department’s Office of Engineering is developing plans to improve safety and traffic operations on Route 100 (Main Street) at its intersection with U.S. Route 1 (Saltonstall Parkway) in the town of East Haven.
It is the Department’s policy to keep the public informed and involved when such projects are undertaken.  It is important that the community share its concerns with us to assist in the project’s development.
This project was initiated by the Department in coordination with the Town of East Haven.  The intersection of Route 100 with U. S. Route 1 experiences a higher than normal frequency of accidents.  This project proposes to address the safety and traffic operational concerns on this section of Route 100 by eliminating the split approach of Route 100 to U. S. Route 1 and widening Route 100 at the existing signalized intersection to provide an exclusive right turn lane and a combination right/left turn lane onto U. S. Route 1.
Several alternatives were considered to provide access to the Twin Pines Center from U.S. Route 1 and/or Route 100.  These alternatives were discussed with Town Officials and the affected property owners during the pre-preliminary design phase.
The present schedule indicates that the design will be completed in November 2011, with construction anticipated to start in spring 2012.  This project will be undertaken with 80% federal and 20% state funds.
