Connecticut Department of Transportation to hold Public Informational Meeting on a Planning Study for Route 15 at Interchange 59
The Connecticut Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting on the transportation study it is conducting in the Town of Woodbridge and the City of New Haven, for the area around Route 15/Wilbur Cross Parkway at Interchange 59, including portions of Routes 63 and 69., along with various local roads.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Mitchell Library, 37 Harrison Street in the Westville area of New Haven. A short presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. The public will be able to talk with the study team before and after the presentation.
This meeting will offer the public a chance to learn about the study and hear the study team’s perspective about traffic problems. The study team will ask the public to share their thoughts on the area’s problems and possible solutions.
The Interchange 59 Transportation Needs and Deficiencies Study was initiated due to traffic congestion and high crash rates in the vicinity of Interchange 59. The study area encompasses Route 63 and Route 69 from Bradley Road in Woodbridge to Davis Street in New Haven.
This Study will examine the geometry – how Interchange 59 is designed – with an aim toward improving it. The study will look at how well the ramps operate and their effect on the Parkway itself and nearby roads. Key locations included in the study are:
· Route 69 at Pond Lily Avenue and the Route 15 Southbound Ramps
· Route 69 between Route 15 Southbound Ramps and Merritt Avenue
· Route 69 between Route 63 and the Route 15 Northbound Off-Ramp
· Route 63 between Fowler Street and the Drive to Amity Shopping Center
· Route 63 at Route 69 and Wright Street
The study will examine several factors such as traffic congestion, accidents, frequency of driveways and traffic signals, access to the Route 15/Wilbur Cross Parkway ramps, bicycle and pedestrian needs and layout of roadway lanes.
The result of the study will be a plan of recommendations for the interchange and surrounding roadways that could lead to short and long term improvement projects in the future. Draft recommendations are expected in mid 2011.
