Bridge Replacement Project on Rte. 97 over Mashamoquet Brook in the Town of Pomfret Scheduled to Start
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that construction work will begin on July 17, 2010 for the replacement Bridge No. 02954 that carries Rte. 97 over Mashamoquet Brook in the town of Pomfret.
The project consists replacement of the bridge deck, railing and parapets along with complete reconstruction of the bridge abutments, footings, and wingwalls.  Footings will be cast atop a series of steel “H” piles.  The new bridge deck will consist of structural steel beams sitting atop bridge abutment seats on elastomeric bearing pads, with a steel reinforced concrete slab atop the steel members.
Full depth roadway reconstruction will be completed on either side of the structure to raise the grade of the road to meet new elevation of bridge which will be approximately four feet higher than existing.
The contract was awarded on June 2, 2010 to New England Infrastructure, Inc. of Hudson Massachusetts at a cost of $2,194,877.00 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2011.
The construction project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
