Waterbury Branch Rail Service Replaced with Bus Service During Rail Maintenance and Repair Projects
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that beginning Monday, July 13, 2009, all Waterbury Branch rail service of the New Haven Line will be replaced with bus service until August 14, 2009. During this time, Metro-North will be installing rail ties, resurfacing track and performing necessary bridge repairs.
“This maintenance and repair project will allow us to provide more reliable service in the future,” said Joseph F. Marie, Commissioner of the Department of Transportation. “We regret any short-term inconvenience this may cause, but we are looking to serve the long-term interests of our customers.”

At least two buses will be made available for all scheduled rail trips departing from either Bridgeport or Waterbury stations. Bus service will also be made available for all scheduled intermediate station trips. Bus service will be provided primarily by CTTRANSIT, with some additional service to and from intermediate stations provided by Peter Pan Bus Lines, Inc. A Metro-North representative will be on hand at key stations to collect fares and help direct passengers to appropriate buses based on their destinations. If a Metro-North representative is not available, customers should talk to the bus operator directly to ensure they will get to their intended destination.
