Upcoming Columbus Day Holiday to Include Some Construction Activity on Major Expressways

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that work will be occurring on limited access highway projects in some areas of the state during the upcoming Columbus Day holiday weekend, which runs from Friday through Monday night (October 9-12, 2009).

“The window of opportunity to complete work this construction season is closing on us,” said Commissioner Joseph F. Marie.  “We have a considerable amount of projects that have temperature–sensitive work that needs to get completed, including resurfacing, crack sealing, line-striping and bridge joint repairs.”

Motorists can expect lane closures on the following routes.  The schedules may change due to weather.

I-95 South in Fairfield (nights)

Friday 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and Monday, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-84 East in Southington (nights)

Friday 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Route 9 South in Haddam (nights)

Friday 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

I-384/US 6 Bolton & Manchester (day or night)

Monday and Friday in both directions from 9 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Saturday and Sunday in both directions closures allowed anytime until 6 a.m. Monday

I-84 West in Danbury (night)

Sunday Ramps 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday

Monday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-84 West in Hartford (night)

Friday from Midnight to 6 a.m.

I-84 West Vernon in Tolland, Willington (night)

Friday and Monday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Generally work on non-expressways is not restricted for the holiday period and motorists may experience lane closures on these roads also.
