Replacement of the State Street Bridge over the Mill River in New Haven to Begin
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the replacement of the State Street Bridge over the Mill River between Lawrence Street and James Street is schedule to commence on Monday, June 22, 2009.
The Project consists of replacement of the entire bridge structure including approach work, new drainage structures and pavement. The new bridge will be a single span structure eliminating the need for a mid-river pier.
The contractor had already performed some preconstruction activities such as field office set up, clearing of trees and utility mark outs. Actual bridge construction and approach activities will commence on or about Monday, June 22, 2009.
Motorists and surrounding businesses can expect occasional lane closures at the bridge between Lawrence St. and James St. up until the end of October 2009. After October 2009, the bridge may contractually be closed for up to a period not to exceed one year. The bridge closure is scheduled to occur at the end of October 2009 and shall be re-opened no later than October 2010. The allowable hours of work on the roadway prior to the closure are:
City and State Roads: Allowable work hours:
Monday – Friday 9 am to 3 pm
Saturday and Sunday 9 pm to 10 am
In addition, the contractor is allowed to stop traffic for a maximum of 10 minutes between 12:01 am to 5:00 am Monday through Thursday.
The contract was awarded to Fucci Construction Inc. on May 2, 2009 at a cost of $5,071,068.05 and scheduled to be completed by May 5, 2011.
