Replacement of Bridge Expansion Joints on Various Bridges in Western Connecticut
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that a bridge expansion joint replacement project is scheduled to begin August 3, 2009, on Interstate 84, from Exit 5 (Starr Avenue) in Danbury, to Exit 7 (Route 7) in Danbury, and on Route 8 at Union Street in Waterbury to Route 8 over Route 67 in Seymour.
This construction project is one of several transportation infrastructure initiatives being funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).The contract was awarded to Mohawk Northeast Inc. of Bloomfield, CT on June 11, 2009, at a cost of $4,207,523.00 and is scheduled to be completed in June 2010.
The project consists of the replacement of asphaltic plug expansion joints on 28 bridges.  The joints allow the bridges to expand and contract in response to temperature changes.
Motorists can expect lane and/or shoulder closures during the allowable work hours.

The allowable hours of work are:

Route 8 Northbound (Seymour, Naugatuck, Waterbury)

Monday-Thursday 

Route 8 North: 9 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 6 am    

Friday - Sunday  

Route 8 North: 9 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 6 am Monday            

Route 8 Southbound (Seymour, Naugatuck, Waterbury)

Monday-Thursday 

Route 8 South: 9 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 6 am   

Friday - Sunday  

Route 8 South: 9 am to 3 pm, 6 pm to 6 am Monday
