Rehabilitation of Butts Bridge Road over the Quinebaug River in the Town of Canterbury To Begin November 20, 2009 
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the project for the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 01649, SR 668 (Butts Bridge Road) over the Quinebaug River in the Town of Canterbury will begin November 20, 2009. 
The project consists of the rehabilitation of the existing bridge and reconstruction of the approach areas to the bridge.  Bridge work includes the replacement and widening of the bridge deck with the addition of parapets, and installation of new bridge railing.  Existing structural steel will be repaired, cleaned and painted and repairs to the concrete substructure will be performed.  Road work includes reconstruction of pavement full-depth at both approaches to the bridge, minor drainage improvements, and installation of metal beam railing.
The contract was awarded to Mohawk Northeast Inc. at a cost of $4,497,190.00 on October 6, 2009 and is scheduled to be completed in May 2011.
Traffic may experience delays on Butts Bridge Road (State Route 668) Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. including weekends. 
Special Advisory- Effective April 1, 2010, the contractor will be closing Butts Bridge Road to through traffic.  The closure will be in effect until August 19, 2010.  Advance notification of the closure with detour routes will be provided.
